RMS Pat was born on 24 June, 2002 and was the last pup born in a litter of
6 pups out of our Jess, CBCA 1165 and our Del'mar Turk, CBCA 122900. He was
a very flashy, half white and black pup who drew your attention right from the
start. He is now an extremely fast, flashy dog who still draws your eye to him.
He has an enormous energy and is extremely strong on stock.
Pat grew up with Turk being after him all the time. He was so fast that he was
a challenge to the old guy and I guess he just couldn't resist that challenge.
When I took him to sheep for the first time, it was just a hoot. I had one look
at him trying to eat those ewes and said: "you're going back in your kennel
'till you grow up a little." I took him out a few more times with the same
thing happening and then at about 14 months of age he finally started to settle
enough that I didn't have to fight and argue with him all the time to get anything
done. He was acturally quite biddable now and really, really strong on his stock.
He had absolutely no fear of anything, was quite square on his flanks and had
a beautiful natural outrun. He came along pretty fast once I started him and
was a joy to work with, watching that natural balance and confident power kicking
in all the time. The kind of dog you love to work 'cause it always gets done.
His Pro/Novice
year was really exciting with him placing third in BC for 2004. He was a bit
of a hot and cold dog for his first couple of trials and then he started to
develop into this dog that pretty well can handle any type of sheep you'd encounter
at any trial. I really like him on tough, heavy sheep or wild range ewes or
lambs. His presence is awesome and nothing questions his authority. He is as
fast as lightening and covers his stock like a trip hammer convincing them that
there is no place for them to go but where he wants them to go. Pat is definitely
a keeper and will, in all likelyhood, be the RMS Kennel stud when Turk passes
on to greener pastures. Pat has done extremely well so far in his first few
trials in the Open Class. He has run in 5 Open trials now, placing in the top
5 in 3 of them, some with as many as 80 dogs running. I am very pleased with
him and he is coming better every time I run him.
The end of 2005 is near and our trial season is over in BC. Pat has had a very
successful year for his first year in Open. He placed 6th in BC in Open this
year and was the youngest dog competing of the 30 dogs in Open Class. He is
starting to settle quite well but I don't want him to settle too much as I like
his speed and vigor. He remains a very nice dog to get along with and likes
to please as well as take control of his sheep at all times. He is always aware
of what is going on and takes his commands immediately. He is now my main Open
dog and I look forward to handling him as a mature dog in the future.
